About British Columbia

Snow-capped mountains, fertile valleys, lush green rainforests, rolling vineyards, and one of the world’s most spectacular coastlines - this is British Columbia (BC), Canada.

BC is Canada’s most westerly province, bordered by: Canada’s Yukon and Northwest Territories and the US state of Alaska to the north; the province of Alberta to the east; and the US states of Washington and Idaho to the south.

The province’s magnificent Pacific Ocean coastline, with its many bays, islands, and inlets, stretches over 7,000 rugged kilometres.

BC is served by six health authorities: five regional and one province-wide. The Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) ensures effective and high-quality delivery of selected province-wide health care programs and services.

The regional health authorities - Interior Health, Island Health, Northern Health, Providence Health, and Vancouver Coastal Health - provide all other services, some in coordination with the PHSA.

Life in Vancouver & the Coast

Snow-capped mountains dominate the skyline. City sidewalks lead to sandy beaches. It's no wonder this area is ranked as one of the best places to live in the world. BC's largest city, Vancouver, was the host of the 2010 Olympic Games and is home to the province's major medical and research centres as well as several universities. Just north of the city are picturesque fishing villages along the Sunshine Coast, and Whistler, the number one ski resort in North America. The region is served by the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and Providence Health Care.
