Palliative Medicine
Fraser Health – Royal Columbian Hospital & New Westminster Community
Fraser Health requires a part-time (0.4 FTE) palliative care physicians to provide clinical service along with our multidisciplinary team located in New Westminster, B.C. This is an exciting opportunity, where you will work alongside other palliative care physicians to provide consultation services to acute care and community-based patients.
Throughout the Fraser Health Authority we provide integrated, regional, comprehensive palliative care services in a number of settings including 30 Palliative Complex Care Unit (PCCU) beds; consult services in 12 acute care sites as well as in the community and other settings; and support to 106 hospice beds. Additionally, we provide under-graduate and post-graduate teaching in affiliation with the Division of Palliative Care at the University of British Columbia.
Royal Columbian Hospital is one of three regional hospitals in Fraser Health offering primary, secondary and tertiary services. With 490 acute care beds, Royal Columbian Hospital provides a number of highly specialized services such as: neurosurgery, interventional cardiology, tertiary trauma, cardiac surgery, internal medicine, gastroenterology, nephrology, etc.
Royal Columbian Hospital is currently undergoing a redevelopment that will transform the hospital to a modernized medical and surgical health care campus. This will lead to more opportunities for expansion and enhancement of palliative care services.
Located along the Lower Fraser River, on the homelands of the Halkomelem speaking people, New Westminster is at the center of Metro Vancouver. The successful candidate will have certification from either the College of Family Physicians of Canada or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Preference will be provided to individuals who have completed additional training in Palliative Medicine, from either stream outlined below:
One year enhanced skills residency and acquired the Certificate of Added Competence (CAC) through the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
Two year Royal College subspecialty in Palliative Medicine.
Eligibility for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia is required.
Remuneration is by service contract at a rate set provincially by the Ministry of Health.
