Working towards a world free from cancer, BC Cancer has a mandate that covers the entire spectrum of cancer care, from prevention and screening to diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.



BC Cancer is seeking to fill the position of Program Medical Director, Supportive Care. The successful applicant will be responsible for program development and overall quality of services for Supportive Care across the province as part of high quality, patient centered interdisciplinary care in collaboration with the CO-Chairs and members of the Provincial Supportive Care Network Team Committee, Senior Executive Medical Directors and Executive Directors at BC Cancer, and other professional practice and provincial leaders. The Program Medical Director provides overall leadership within BC Cancer for Supportive Care including psychiatry, speech and language pathology, nutrition, pain and symptom management, palliative care, counselling, physiotherapy, spiritual care, music therapy etc.


Other key relationships include: Supportive Care leads in the Heath Authorities, Tumor Group Council Chair, Executive Director Provincial Programs at BC Cancer, Supportive Care leaders at BC Cancer.



The successful candidate will be a Pathologist with current (or eligibility for) registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC and will possess:

Physician who graduated from an approved medical school with certification from an approved residency training program with a minimum of 8 years of experience.
Minimum of 3 years of successful leadership and/or administrative experience in a relevant health care environment. Executive or leadership training (e.g. MBA, PMI or equivalent) is considered to be an asset.
Working knowledge in an area of Supportive Care.
Eligibility for or licensing by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC.
Eligibility for or current appointment to the medical staff of BC Cancer.
You have:

Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).


As per the current Public Health Order, full vaccination against COVID-19 is a condition of employment with PHSA as of October 26, 2021.
