General Practitioner in Oncology – Radiation Oncology

BC Cancer – Vancouver is looking for a full-time family physician to work within the Radiation Oncology Departments as a General Practitioner in Oncology (GPO). The focus of work will depend on the departmental needs and the candidate skill set but will likely include cancer sites such as lung, GI, GU and head and neck malignancies. This GPO will work as part of a collaborative, collegial and engaged team. They will help to manage oncology patients primarily in the outpatient setting but also support inpatient, indirect and remote care; this GPO will help care for patients throughout their entire treatment pathway including primary treatment through survivorship. The radiation oncology team works within and is supported by a full function cancer centre with 32 Radiation oncologists. There are currently 2.5 GPOs in radiation oncology. They work alongside 40 Medical oncologists, 11 medical oncology GPOs, sub-specialized radiologists, pathologists and palliative care doctors as well as sub-specialized ancillary support (nutritionists, social work, sexual medicine etc) in a UBC affiliated teaching and academic hospital. The role is extremely interesting and profoundly meaningful to patients.

There is no on-call service or evening work associated with this role. No previous experience in oncology is required. The department will support the successful applicant in developing the requisite expertise for the role, including an Introductory GPO course in Vancouver.



The Vancouver Clinic is the largest facility within BC Cancer and works in close collaboration with the BC Cancer Research Centre (BCCRC) and Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), both of which are in close proximity. The clinic has a longstanding reputation for clinical excellence and academia.



Applicants must be eligible for licensure as a family practitioner in British Columbia, have Canadian certification (FRCP, FRCS or CCFP) at the time of appointment, and should be suitable for appointment to the University of British Columbia. Preferred start date is as soon as possible.
