The Cowichan Valley

The Cowichan region gets its name from "Quw'utsun', an Indigenous word meaning 'the warm land'. With one of the warmest year-round climates in Canada, it's no wonder the valley is rich with thriving farmlands and farmers markets.

The Cowichan Valley is home to scenic hiking and biking trails, year-round kayaking, golfing, wineries and craft breweries.

The Cowichan District Hospital (CDH) is located in Duncan, the heart of the Cowichan Valley.

Located between Victoria and Nanaimo, Duncan is easily accessible by car, float plane or by BC Ferries. The Nanaimo airport (YCD) is a 35 minute drive from Duncan. The Victoria airport (YYJ) is an hour and a half drive from Duncan.

Cowichan District Hospital

Island Health is in the process of replacing the current hospital with a modern, 204-bed hospital that will be located at 6775 Bell McKinnon Road in North Cowichan. Construction will begin in January 2023 and finish up in late 2026. The new hospital will be three times larger with a reduced impact on the environment and spaces that support a welcoming, culturally safe health care and workplace experience for all.
