Specialty Anesthesiology

Subspecialty General

Role and Facility Information

With the upcoming move into our five newly-built operating rooms in the fall of 2021, we are seeking the addition of full-time and/or part-time anesthesiologists who will thrive in our friendly team environment at Peace Arch Hospital (PAH).

PAH is a 146-bed acute-care hospital in White Rock, British Columbia. Our team serves both daycare and surgical inpatients from across the south Fraser region, and is set to expand significantly with the upcoming completion of a major hospital re-development project. By the fall of 2021, we will have a greatly expanded emergency department and five brand-new operating rooms, in addition to minor procedure rooms.

Surgical specialties at PAH include general surgery (including major bowel cases), obstetrics & gynecology, orthopedics (including joint replacements and revisions), urology (including radical prostates & nephrectomies), plastic surgery, ENT, oral & maxillo-facial surgery, and ophthalmology.

PAH boasts a modern maternity unit with 8 private labour & delivery rooms serving a growing local population.

We have an efficient Pre-Admission Clinic where we provide both in-person and virtual consultations. Our surgical patient population includes many seniors, and we take pride in efficiently assessing and optimizing those with multiple co-morbidities. Our Internal Medicine colleagues provide 24/7 availability for inpatient perioperative consultations, and we have an Intensive Care Unit that provides postoperative critical care when necessary.

The PAH Department of Anesthesiology currently includes nine FRCPC anesthesiologists, with one long-standing member planning to retire in May.

There is one PAH anesthesiologist on-call from home 24/7/365. Each full-time department member averages one night on-call per week; either a 12-hour weeknight, or a 24-hour weekend day.

Our department members are also active leaders in the local Physician Quality Improvement (PQI) program, the Medical Staff Association, and various hospital decision-making processes.

Applicants must be eligible for FRCPC certification (Anesthesiology) and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C. All qualified candidates including international medical graduates are encouraged to apply. No additional fellowship training is required, but additional skills or interest in one or more of the following areas would be a benefit: regional (nerve block) anesthesia, POCUS, peri-operative medicine, and quality improvement.

The Community

White Rock is known as B.C.’s City by the Sea. White Rock & South Surrey (WRSS) is a great family-friendly and affordable community to live in. WRSS has two beaches; good schools (both public and private); restaurants; shopping; and both indoor and outdoor sports facilities for adults and youth.

PAH is only 5-10 minutes from the Peace Arch Border crossing, allowing for quick post-pandemic cross-border trips to the USA. WRSS is also one of the sunniest and driest areas of B.C.’s Lower Mainland, a great environment for a wide variety of outdoor pursuits.
