Specialty Family Practitioner/General Practitioner

Subspecialty Emergency

Role and Facility Information

This is an opportunity for a Family Physician (FP) or Emergency Physician (EP) to work in a part-time position at a rapidly growing Urgent and Primary Care Clinic (UPCC) in Richmond.

The UPCC provides urgent care for patients with non-life-threatening injuries, illnesses, and conditions that should be addressed within 12 to 24 hours, but do not require the service and expertise of a hospital emergency department (CTAS 3,4,5). A temporary location UPCC is currently operating 7 days per week, Monday to Friday 1600-2200, Saturday 0800-2200, and Sunday and Holidays 0900-1700. Successful candidates will join the new permanent Richmond UPCC that is scheduled to begin operations in April 2022. Permanent site hours are 0800-2200 everyday except Sundays 0900-1700. If you are interested in a locum opportunity at the temporary site at present, please inquire through the HMBC posting. There is an opportunity for flexible locum hours to permanent part time shifts.

UPCC provides team-based care with physicians working closely with nurse practitioners and registered nurses. The permanent clinic will have on site X-ray, ECG, slit lamp, point of care ultrasound, and social work services. Applicants should have experience in splinting and casting, suturing, and minor procedures. A longitudinal primary care clinic will be established and co-located with urgent care. Patients will be supported to find primary care provider if unattached.

The ideal candidate combines current or recent experience in primary care along with urgent or emergent care, with a clear understanding of the role and importance of foundational primary care and is able to integrate the two. Training in Opioid Agonist Therapy is an asset but not mandatory. Candidates must be flexible and available to work a variety of shifts including weekend and holiday shifts. We actively foster a positive, respectful, and supportive working environment, and we are looking for someone who is positive, energetic, and empathic with strong communication skills and natural attention to detail.

The Richmond UPCC supports a healthy work-life balance and will focus on the professional development and satisfaction of its multidisciplinary team. The clinic supports learning, skill development and continuous quality improvement.
