Perinatal Services BC is seeking a Provincial Primary Care Maternity Medical Lead (PCML). The PCML is the primary care clinical strategic advisor to the Executive Director and Medical Director, and a member of the PSBC leadership team – informing the development and execution of PSBC strategies and annual operational plans. In this role, the PCML will also be responsible to provide active input into annual prioritization decisions.
The PCML provides both strategic and clinical leadership to Perinatal Services BC (PSBC) with specific focus on quality, access, research, academics, innovation, and health system advancement in the field of Primary Care. In partnership with the Executive Director, Medical Director, and the PSBC leadership team, responsibilities include fostering strategic partnerships with clinical, operational and academic leaders; assisting in the development of functional governance structures and prioritization frameworks; and advancing strategies to improve primary care maternity services and the health and wellbeing of women and infants in the province of British Columbia.
The PCML will play an active leadership role in the development, implementation, and operation of prioritization processes and decision-making frameworks that will support the delivery of the PHSA Maternity Services Strategy (MSS). This strategy will lead B.C. toward province-wide maternity services where:
• Every person and family has access to predictable, high-quality, person-centred and culturally safe maternity care as close as home as safely possible;
• Providers are supported to work to their full scope of practice and in inter-professional collaborative teams and;
• The system is considered holistically and planned to match services to the needs of the population
In this role, the PCML will work closely with the PSBC Leadership Team to develop an overall quality framework and performance measurement strategy. The PCML will play a key role in leading systems and enriching a culture that promotes continuous improvement and pursuit of program excellence, applying current research evidence and best practice standards. The PCML will operate, along with the Executive Director and Medical Director, as a conduit between PSBC and Health Authority leaders to appropriately share findings from PSBC led quality reviews to support actions to drive improved health outcomes.
Along with training in a relevant area of Obstetrics or Pediatrics, The candidate should be registered with or eligible for registration with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of British Columbia. You will have CCFP Accreditation for Family Physicians and additional training in a relevant area of Obstetrics or Pediatrics. Demonstrated research, leadership and/or administrative experience would be highly beneficial. The ideal candidate will have or be eligible for a faculty appointment at the University of British Columbia.
