The University of British Columbia (UBC) and BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH)
Vancouver, British Columbia

Regular Full Time – (1.0 FTE)

The UBC Department of Pediatrics and BCCH are seeking a Pediatric Endocrinologist.

BC Children's Hospital (BCCH) is the only dedicated pediatric tertiary care centre for the province of British Columbia in Canada serving a population of approximately 4 million people. The Department of Pediatrics within the University of British Columbia (UBC) resides within BCCH.

The Division of Endocrinology at BCCH includes 8 clinical faculty and 1 scientist, as well as a team of dedicated clinical nurse specialists, dietitians, and social workers. The vision of the Division is: ‘Empowered patients, exemplary team, ever-evolving care, and excellence in education and research.’ The Division aims to maintain its status of academic excellence through ongoing clinical and pre-clinical/discovery research, and the education of future health care providers through a successful Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons accredited fellowship training program.

The Division of Endocrinology is comprised of 3 key clinical programs:
1. The Diabetes Program serves children and youth <19 years of age diagnosed with all forms of diabetes. Care is provided at diagnosis in the Diabetes Day Program, throughout childhood and adolescence in the Diabetes Outpatient Clinic until transition to adult services. Care is also provided closer to home via outreach (Abbotsford, Prince George, Yukon), and telehealth clinics.
2. The Endocrinology Program serves as a consultation service to children and youth <19 years of age who have possible or confirmed endocrine diagnoses. The program includes outreach clinics that were established in the last 10 years in Prince George, Abbotsford, and Kelowna with the goal of minimizing patient/family travel and to support care closer to home.
3. The Gender Program, one of the busiest in North America, serves transgender and gender-nonconforming youth <19 years from across BC who are seeking information and treatment regarding pubertal blockade and gender-affirming hormone therapy. The team (Endocrinologist, Endocrine Nurse Clinician and Social Worker) work in partnership with BCCH and community mental health professionals as well as Trans Care BC as a ‘clinic without walls’ that delivers endocrine care to this population.

The successful applicant must be eligible to obtain a specialist’s license to practice medicine in British Columbia as well as Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Pediatrics and Fellowship training in Endocrinology (or equivalents). A Master’s Degree or equivalent post-graduate training is considered an asset. The proposed position will have a clinical component (outpatient clinics in endocrinology and diabetes, in-patient service and call, outreach/virtual care) and a teaching component (participation in educational activities within the Division including academic rounds, fellow/resident teaching, and supervision of fellow continuity clinics).

The successful applicant will also have an interest in research/clinical trials/quality improvement in diabetes and be part of succession planning for supporting the pharmaceutical industry-sponsored clinical trials performed in our Division.

UBC Clinical faculty rank and salary will be commensurate upon your personal experience and qualifications.

The anticipated start date for the position is July 1st, 2022.

Interested Individuals should submit their most current Curriculum Vitae; covering letter and 3 letters of reference to:

Health Match BC

Applications will be accepted until March 31, 2022.

PHSA, UBC and BCCH are committed to employment equity, encouraging all qualified individuals to apply. We recognize that our ability to provide the best care for our diverse patient populations relies on a rich diversity of skills, knowledge, background and experience, and value a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment.
