Vancouver Coastal Health’s New Grad Program provides new RN and RPN graduates with learning opportunities that encourage confidence and competence as they transition into practice. The New Grad Program includes:
•New Grad Transition Workshop: network with other new grads and learn about tools and strategies for personal wellness and professional growth as you transition from nursing school into independent practice in the workplace.
•New Grad Clinical Decision Making Workshop: practice evaluating and implementing the clinical decision-making framework with other new graduates in a supportive environment.
•At The Elbow Support: in addition to regional and unit-based orientation and support from unit-based Clinical Nurse Educators, we provide additional New Grad Clinical Nurse Educator support throughout your first year for help with clinical skills, coaching, debriefing your experiences, and resource finding through face-to-face meetings on the unit and/or email/phone contact to support your transition.

Please include a cover letter and a current resume clearly outlining your clinical placements (including Hospital/Site, Unit, dates, and length of placement), and the Unit you worked on as an Employed Student Nurse (ESN) if applicable.


Practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurse & Midwives (BCCNM) as well as within a client and family centred care model and the vision and values of the organization. Provides nursing care to assigned clients both by working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Enhances quality of life from the perspective of the client/family. Consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care providers. Demonstrates continuous improvement and best practice approach in nursing practice. Maintains and advances own clinical competence. Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.


Education & Experience:
-Graduation from a recognized program in Nursing (within the last 18 months).
-Current (or eligibility for) Provisional or Practising registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
-For Mental Health & Substance Use nursing positions, a minimum 6 week or 240 hours of clinical practicum/preceptorship in a mental health setting supplemented by completion of coursework in mental health or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
