Northern Health is accepting applications for a critical care nurse at Mills Memorial Hospital Terrace BC.

Mills Memorial Hospital Replacement
We are building a new, state-of-the-art hospital in Terrace, BC, to address current and future patient care needs. At almost double the size of the existing facility (approximately 285,000 square feet), the new, acute care hospital and integrated services facility will be a centre for trauma services, orthopedic surgeries, pathology, radiology, clinical support, and pharmacy services. The hospital will also be a training site for medical students in the Northern Medical Program.

Job Summary
Provides and coordinates nursing care with current standards of nursing practice and the Clinical Specialty of ICU, Acute Care and Emergency/Ambulatory Care Nursing. Clinical experience in ICU and Emergency is an asset. Head Nurse Critical Care or IC ER is responsible for assigning float nurse duties. The primary workload focus will be ICU. This position will float to AC and ER to support increased workload if not required in ICU. This position will not take a patient assignment to facilitate redeployment to ICU when needed.

Top 4 Key Responsibilities
• Responsible and accountable for the physical and psychological care of ER assigned patient group.
• Uses the nursing process in providing patient care; completes assessments of ER patients and communicates this appropriately. Adjusts plan of care in consultation with medical staff and implements plans.
• Performs documentation duties in ER unit and patient record which is timely, accurate and concise and in accordance with current hospital policy.
• Maintains an awareness of emergency response protocol and procedures for critical care patient situations.

Job Qualifications
• Registration with BC College of Nursing Professionals as a practicing RN registrant.
• Minimum two (2) years medical/surgical experience and/or Post Diploma Certificate in Critical Care and/or Emergency Nursing and/or equivalent combination of experience and training. Applicants without formal Emergency/Critical Care Training and/or equivalent experience will be expected to enroll in an Emergency or Critical Care Course within 6 months of receiving the job.
• CPR (Basic Life Support) certification.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification or willingness to complete within 1 year.
