Island Health has a unique opportunity to work on the spectacular northeast coast of Vancouver Island in Alert Bay/Cormorant Island. In this role, you provide professional nursing care and are responsible for coordinating and administering direct client care utilizing the nursing process. You provide direction to staff and volunteers and respond to emergency situations to safeguard clients, visitors and staff.

The team at Cormorant Island Community Health Centre has excellent working relationships with physicians and other healthcare professionals. Services at this location include an Emergency Department, Acute Care, Long-term Care, Ambulatory Outpatient Services, Laboratory, X-Ray, Palliative Care, Emergency Obstetrics, Visiting Specialist and Medical Detox.

Relocation assistance is available and temporary paid accommodation may be offered (subject to availability). This position may also qualify for the Provincial Loan Forgiveness program.


• Registration with BC College of Nursing Professionals as a practicing RN registrant

• Two years of recent, related experience (or equivalent)

• Basic Life Support, Level C required

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support for Emergency Room, ICU and Critical Care preferred

• Valid BC Driver’s License

We have multiple full-time and temporary full-time positions for RNs and LPNs in the northern communities of Vancouver Island.

Alert Bay is located on Cormorant Island, three kilometres off the Northeast coast of Vancouver Island. The population is approximately 1,500. Alert Bay is easily accessible by a scenic ferry ride from Port McNeill and the small, picturesque fishing village of Sointula on Malcolm Island. It is the oldest community on northern Vancouver Island and has been the traditional home of the Namgis First Nation for several thousand years. Ferry service runs continuously between Port McNeill, Sointula and Alert Bay seven days a week.

Services at the Cormorant Island Community Health Centre include an emergency department, acute care, long-term care, ambulatory outpatient services, laboratory, x-ray, palliative care, emergency obstetrics, visiting specialist and medical detox.

The community of Alert Bay is known for its magnificent scenery, First Nations culture and some of the best saltwater fishing in British Columbia. Alert Bay offers residents and visitors a wide variety of both indoor and outdoor recreational opportunities ranging from local arts and cultural pursuits, to hiking, cycling, beachcombing and whale watching. Because of its easy access to the mainland via BC Ferries at Port McNeill, some residents commute on a daily basis.
