Role and Facility Information
The Vancouver Acute Division of Cardiology invites applications from outstanding academic cardiologists with special expertise in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation. This individual is expected to pursue an academically focused career based on research experience and educational training, for a full-time position at the rank of Clinical Associate Professor.
This position is primarily based at St. Paul’s Hospital, but it is expected that the successful candidate will have a clinical foot print at Vancouver General Hospital given the Regional nature of our Heart Failure Program.
The Provincial Advanced Heart Failure Program at St. Paul’s Hospital is the only provider of cardiac transplant and durable mechanical circulatory support in British Columbia. The Program is composed of a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals dedicated to improving outcomes for patients with advanced heart failure. We work in partnership with colleagues from around the province and in collaboration with stakeholders including the Provincial Health Services Authority and the BC Transplant Society. As the pace of Program growth accelerates, we require an additional full time academically focused recruit to support our ambitious approach to partnership activities across the province.
The applicant must have demonstrated excellence in the care of patients with advanced heart failure, cardiac transplant and mechanical circulatory support with a minimum 1 year of dedicated training in this area and minimum 5 years of clinical experience. Additional expertise at the interface of adult congenital heart disease and cardiac transplantation would be highly desirable. Similarly, a demonstrated skills and aptitude for cardio-oncology and/or remote monitoring in heart failure would be of interest to the selection committee. We anticipate our growing program will increasingly leverage digital health solutions and emerging technologies to support our vast network of patients and partners from across the province.
The Division operates an academic practice plan, which the successful candidate is expected to contribute to, and be eligible to receive a supplementary stipend for exceptional academic contribution.
The successful candidate will possess FRCPC designation in Internal Medicine and Cardiology and must be eligible for licensure in the Province of British Columbia. Those applicants with AFC certification in Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation from the RCPSC will receive particular consideration. Candidates should possess exceptional communication and teaching skills.
This position will also be a clinical faculty position within the Division of Cardiology at the University of British Columbia (UBC). As part of the UBC Division of Cardiology’s academic focus, the successful candidate is expected to substantially support the development and growth of the UBC Cardiology research and teaching programs. Clinical faculty appointments at UBC are assigned at a rank determined by the Appointments and Promotion Committee of the UBC Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology.
