Subspecialty Palliative Medicine

Role and Facility Information

Fraser Health requires a full-time (1.0 FTE) palliative care physician to provide clinical service along with our multidisciplinary team located in Abbotsford, B.C. This is an exciting opportunity, where you will work alongside other palliative care physicians to provide most responsible provider (MRP) coverage to our Palliative Complex Care Unit (PCCU) and local hospice; and provide consultation services to acute care and community-based patients.

Throughout the Fraser Health Authority we provide integrated, regional, comprehensive palliative care services in a number of settings including 30 Palliative Complex Care Unit (PCCU) beds; consult services in 12 acute care sites as well as in the community and other settings; and support to 106 hospice beds. Additionally, we provide under-graduate and post-graduate teaching in affiliation with the Division of Palliative Care at the University of British Columbia.

Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre (ARHCC) in Abbotsford is a 302 bed, University of British Columbia affiliated hospital offering medical, surgical, obstetrics, inpatient pediatrics, renal, cardiology, palliative complex care, helipad, as well as 24/7 emergency services with 77,032 visits annually.*

Located one hour east (70km) of Vancouver, Abbotsford borders Mission to the north, Langley to the west, Chilliwack to the east, and Washington State to the south. This sprawling rural “city in the country” is set against stunning views of B.C.’s Coast Mountains and Washington’s Mount Baker. Abbotsford’s cost of living is substantially lower than in Greater Vancouver.
The successful candidate will have completed a Year of Added Competency program in Palliative Medicine, and will have acquired the Certificate of Added Competence (CAC) through the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Eligibility for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia is required, and preference will be given to candidates certified by either the College of Family Physicians of Canada or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Remuneration is by service contract at a rate set provincially by the Ministry of Health.
