General Cardiologist with Echocardiography training

RCH Department of Cardiology

0.5 FTE - July 1, 2021 - Dec. 31, 2021 and 1.0 FTE thereafter

The RCH Department of Cardiology is looking for a clinical General Cardiologist with echocardiography training. We provide general cardiology coverage at Royal Columbian Hospital, a tertiary care hospital located in New Westminster, BC. The successful candidate will be part of the Cardiology group practice, Echocardiography group and will provide services as determined by the needs of the clinical group. The candidate will be involved in the echo lab duties and echocardiography calls. The volume in the echo lab will be equally divided between physicians involved in the lab as the call duties. This will involve providing coverage for the inpatient services as well as the RCH outpatient clinics. This position will also provide clinical calls for RCH as determined by the Cardiology service needs. Further clinical details can be discussed with interested applicants.

This position offers the opportunity to practice as a Cardiologist in a tertiary/quatritiary centre. There will be an expectation to provide a leadership role within the group based on need. He/she will be expected to participate in Journal Clubs, Rounds and other academic endeavours.

Qualifications

The candidate must have passed the Royal College Examination in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. The candidate must have echocardiography fellowship at least for a year and be qualified as level 3 echocardiographer after their training. They must demonstrate evidence of sufficient clinical experience in Cardiology and echocardiography. Experience in structural and interventional related procedures and research and teaching experience considered an asset.



Facility: Royal Columbian Hospital

RCH is a provincial referral hospital (stroke/cardiac/trauma/neurosurgery) located in New Westminster, BC, with 440 acute beds and is a University of British Columbia affiliated teaching hospital. It offers medical, surgical, advanced and interventional diagnostics & imaging, critical care, inpatient pediatrics, obstetrics, outpatient clinics, neonatology, cardiac surgery, neurosciences, with about 78,271 visits annually.

The Royal Columbian Hospital redevelopment is a multi-year, multi-phase project to increase the hospital's capacity, beds and services. Phase one is complete and includes a new 75-bed mental health and substance use wellness centre with more outpatient clinics. Phase two has been approved and adds an acute care tower with more beds for intensive care, cardiac intensive care, obstetrics, medical and surgical beds and a new larger emergency department.
