Specialty Hospitalist

Subspecialty Family Practice or Internal Medicine

Role and Facility Information

The most notable aspect of Royal Inland Hospital is the friendly and supportive medical staff that take a cooperative approach to patient care; Hospitalists play a core role at our site. The patient case load is diverse and the hospitalist work is rewarding for this reason (of note, there is no coverage for obstetrical or pediatric patients).

RIH now has a 12 resident family practice program as well as a satellite UBC clerkship program providing ample teaching opportunities.

On-site hours are generally 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. based on an average of 18-22 inpatients per day. Schedule is generally seven days on , seven days off, but is highly flexible (with approximately one overnight call per week). Emergency physicians will admit patients overnight and the majority of call is managed from home via telephone and remote computer access, it is rare to have to come in.

If interested, Interior Health’s also offers the NAVIG8 Program which provides Leadership Development Opportunities. The NAVIG8 Emerging Physician Leaders Program is a comprehensive leadership development program designed specifically for physicians to address the practical leadership knowledge, behaviours and skills that high potential, emerging medical leaders require to step into leadership roles early in their careers.
