Are you looking for a demanding, yet rewarding career as a Critical Care Nurse?

Island Health is looking for patient-focused team players to work in Nanaimo and Victoria hospitals (Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, Royal Jubilee Hospital and Victoria General Hospital) Adult Intensive Care Units and newly developed Adult High Acuity Units.

Join a compassionate and dedicated team who provide excellence in care for critically ill patients who often have complex health histories. In this collaborative role, you will demonstrate expertise and leadership in nursing practice while maintaining a positive connection with the patients and their families.


• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing.

• Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP) or eligible for registration.

• Minimum two years of recent critical care/HAU nursing experience and/or completion of a Critical Care/High Acuity accredited course.

Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) is a level 3 Trauma Centre for Vancouver Island that serves patients from the Malahat North. Our 10-bed ICU cares for critically ill patients and we are opening a new High Acuity Unit in October 2021. Both the ICU and HAU are staffed with specialty trained nurses. A new ICU/HAU building project is currently under development. Additional specialties include renal services.

Royal Jubilee Hospital (RJH) is a tertiary level hospital that cares for sick medical/surgical patients, with a primary focus on renal, vascular, thoracic, cardiac and burn focused specialties. Our 11-bed ICU cares for critically ill patients and in October 2020, RJH will open a new 8-bed High Acuity Unit which will be staffed with specialty trained nurses.

Victoria General Hospital (VGH) is designated as a level 2 Trauma Centre for Vancouver Island and is the tertiary referral centre for Neurosciences. Additional specialties include maternity, women’s health and pediatrics. Our 9-bed ICU cares for critically ill patients and in the fall of 2020, VGH will be opening a new 6-bed High Acuity Unit which will be staffed with specialty trained nurses.
