Role and Facility Information

The Comox Valley Hospital is seeking 0.8 FTE General Surgeon to join 3, 0.8 FTE General Surgeons. On-call requirements are 1 in 5. Applicants must hold Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) certification or equivalent, and be eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.

Applicants must demonstrate experience as well as comfort working as part of an integrated care team with other hospital-focused specialist physicians and support colleagues, family physicians and nurses. The Comox Valley Hospital supports the UBC Strathcona Site Family Medicine Training Program which the Division of General Surgery participates in.

The Comox Valley Hospital is a brand new 154 bed acute care facility, managed by the Vancouver Island Health Authority. This new facility has 45 additional beds to accommodate the recent increase in population and includes an 8-bed ICU and a 10-bed telemetry unit.

The Comox Valley is Vancouver Island’s hidden gem. Located on the West coast of the Salish Sea, half way up the Island, the Comox Valley includes the towns of Comox, Courtenay and Cumberland which together have an immediate catchment of almost 70,000 people. The new hospital is located in Courtenay, just 10 minutes from sandy ocean beach, 15 minutes from the world class Cumberland mountain biking trails, 35 minutes from the Mount Washington ski resort and 1 hour from Nanaimo. The Comox Valley also has a thriving airport with direct flights to Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and seasonal flights to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

In addition to regional big box stores, our three downtown cores are filled with trendy shops, restaurants and brew pubs. The weekly farmer’s market offers access to live entertainment and locally grown produce. In comparison to nearby cities, housing remains affordable with access to both French and English schools and high quality day care. The Comox Valley is truly an excellent place to live and work.
