Role and Facility Information

Vancouver Coastal Health – Richmond seeks a community orthopaedic surgeon with sub-specialty training and interest in hip and knee arthroplasty to join a group of 6. Must be FRCSC certified and eligible to practice in BC. The successful applicant would provide 1:7 call and trauma services at a community hospital level. Their elective surgical practice would be expected to involve primarily hip and knee arthroplasty. Richmond Hospital is affiliated with UBC. Student/Resident teaching is encouraged. We plan to accept applications until October 1, 2020 and will be conducting formal interviews sometime after that. Only applicants of interest will be contacted.

Richmond hospital is a community academic teaching hospital. Applicants must have an interest or additional training in research and/or medical education. The hospital is over 225 beds, sees over 50,000 emergency room patients per year and runs seven acute operating rooms daily as well as a minor procedure room, a busy rehab clinic and an ambulatory procedure centre. The medical community is collegial and supportive with excellent relationships between departments as well as between community family physicians and specialists. Due to its proximity to the Vancouver airport, the hospital also provides services to visitors traveling to and from YVR.

Richmond is located on Lulu Island at the mouth of the Fraser River, and also encompasses adjacent Sea Island and some smaller uninhabited islets to the north and south. Neighbouring communities are Vancouver and Burnaby to the north, New Westminster to the east, and Delta to the south. The Strait of Georgia forms its western border. It is the fourth largest city in BC and encompasses diverse neighbourhoods from historic Steveston to the agricultural land reserves. The population of 218,000 is one of the most ethnically diverse in Canada
