Role and Facility Information

The RCH Department of Cardiology is looking for a clinical General Cardiologist with Heart failure training. We provide general cardiology coverage at Royal Columbian Hospital, a tertiary care hospital located in New Westminster, BC. The successful candidate will be part of the Cardiology group practice, and will provide services as determined by the needs of the clinical group. This will involve providing coverage for the inpatient services as well as the RCH outpatient clinics. This position will also provide clinical calls for RCH as determined by the Cardiology service needs. Further clinical details can be discussed with interested applicants.

This position offers the opportunity to practice as a Cardiologist in a tertiary/quatritiary centre. There will be an expectation to provide a leadership role within the group based on need. He/she will be expected to participate in Journal Clubs, Rounds and other academic endeavours.

The position is a 1.0 FTE and is scheduled to start July 1, 2020 and the compensation is Fee for Service.

Qualifications

The candidate must have passed the Royal College Examination in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. The candidate must have heart failure fellowship and must demonstrate evidence of sufficient clinical experience in Cardiology and heart failure. Master’s in epidemiology and research and teaching experience considered an asset.

Royal Columbian Hospital is a provincial referral hospital (tertiary/trauma care centre) located in New Westminster, BC, with 422 acute beds that is a University of BC Affiliated teaching hospital that offers medical, surgical, advanced diagnostics & imaging, critical care, inpatient pediatrics, levels 1 & 3 obstetrics, outpatient clinics, level 2 & 3 neonatology, cardiac surgery, neurosciences, and tertiary programs as well as 24/7 emergency services with 75,986 visits annually.

The Royal Columbian Hospital Redevelopment is a multi-year, multi-phase project to increase the hospital's capacity, beds and services. Phase one is underway and includes multiple projects, many which prepare the hospital’s infrastructure for future expansion as well as a new 75-bed mental health and substance use wellness centre with more outpatient clinics by late 2019/early 2020. Phase two, if approved by government, proposes to add an acute care tower with more beds for intensive care, cardiac intensive care, obstetrics and medicine/surgical and a new larger emergency by late 2022. Phase three proposes to upgrade existing buildings to support areas in the Health Care Centre, such as the laboratory and pharmacy, by 2025.
