Specialty Medical Laboratory Technologist

Role and Facility Information

Island Health is seeking a Laboratory Site Coordinator, Tofino General Hospital.

As the Laboratory Site Coordinator, you are responsible for the coordination and direction of the day-to-day operations and the supervision of designated staff. You will be required to meet established annual objectives and participate in policy and procedure development/implementation. Your role includes participation in program and service design and delivery planning, implementation and evaluation.

Collaborating with the Chief Technologist, team leaders Support & Community Services, Technical Coordinators and staff, you ensure that assigned Laboratory Medicine services are efficient, effective and support client/patient care goals and objectives.

You efficiently manage a budget and provide input on capital and operation budgets.


Along with your successful completion of a recognized diploma program in Medical Laboratory Technology and certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS), you have at least three years of recent experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity (or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience).

Successful completion of courses in hospital or business administration and supervisory/leadership training courses are considered an asset.
