Role and Facility Information

Forensic Psychiatric Services, as part of BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services (BCMHSUS) provides specialized forensic psychiatric assessment and treatment services to the courts, the BC Review Board, and to the custody and community branches of BC Corrections. These services are located at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital and the six Regional Forensic Clinics in Vancouver, Surrey, Victoria, Nanaimo, Prince George and Kamloops/Kelowna. In addition to delivering these clinical services, BCMHSUS through its programs and services, provides provincial leadership for system-wide improvement through its work in: health promotion and illness prevention; knowledge exchange; and research and academic teaching.

General Practitioner – Opioid Addiction Treatment Clinic

Vancouver Forensic Regional Clinic

Regular Part-time (1 to 2 days per week)

Special focus General Practitioner addiction services are a crucial component in providing opioid agonist treatment care and addiction medicine consultation at the Forensic Psychiatric Services Regional Clinics.

The General Practitioner therefore is an important member of the health care team and works closely with the Forensic Psychiatrist, Nurses, Health Care Management, and other professionals and staff. The work is both interesting and challenging. Experience in working with patients across a broad spectrum of psychiatric illness, substance use disorders, and personality difficulties, is a definite advantage.

The successful Physician will have experience in addictions medicine and a current methadone exemption for the treatment of opioid use disorder and Suboxone certification. They will be committed to providing harm reduction in addictions care using trauma-informed practice.The successful Physician will have experience working with marginalized populations and people living with chronic mental illness.

The interested physicians should be eligible for provisional or full licensure with CPSBC. Certification with the College of Family Physicians, or equivalent, is mandatory. Experience in addiction medicine and/or additional certification or training is required as well as well as completion of the Provincial Opioid Addiction Treatment Support Program to obtain methadone exemption.
