Role and Facility Information

Richmond is a diverse ‘young’ city thriving with families in all stages of life. It is located just south of Vancouver, BC. The Richmond Child and Youth Program is located in a community clinic within walking distance to Richmond Hospital. The Richmond Child and Youth Program is a community-based public mental health service for children 5 to 18 years of age with significant emotional and/or behavioural problems. The Richmond Child and Adolescent Program (CAP) is comprised of 3 units: a child and youth outpatient mental health service, integrated youth outreach, and Richmond School Program. Assessments and evidence-informed treatments are provided to children in conjunction with their families. A good knowledge of child relational/developmental/psycho therapeutic theory and practice is essential. Prescription and monitoring of medications will be provided as needed. Each clinician assesses and treats children on their caseload and may consult other team members as indicated. Collaboration with other community service providers is essential. CAP team members function together as a “Working Group”, with an expectancy to collaborate reflectively.

The Richmond Child and Adolescent Program is closely linked with Dept of Psychiatry RH, and UBC Faculty of Medicine, innovates and collaborates in educational and research projects.

The psychiatrists may also be involved in the planning, implementation and evaluation of new programs and will participate in the training and education of medical students, residents and other allied health professionals. Opportunities may exist for research projects and group work. There is an expectation that psychiatrists will participate in the on-call roster.
