Anatomic & Oral Pathologist Position

Vancouver General Hospital

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Vancouver General Hospital is looking to hire an academic anatomical/oral pathologist to join a team of about 50 staff physicians providing surgical pathology coverage at Vancouver General Hospital and University of British Columbia Hospital.

The primary focus of this position will be to provide academic and clinical coverage for the oral pathology service in our department; therefore, the successful applicant will be required to have certification in oral pathology (Royal College of Dentistry of Canada Oral Medicine/Oral Pathology certification, or equivalent). This is a busy clinical service as the sole reference centre for oral pathology in the province, as well as subspecialty consultation service for cases received from across Canada. There are also significant teaching responsibilities, primarily for trainees in the University of British Columbia (UBC) Oral Pathology residency program, as well as for students from the Faculty of Dentistry. Furthermore, the successful applicant will demonstrate a commitment to clinical translational research in oral pathology, joining the current group of oral pathologists with an internationally recognized research program in oral dysplasia and related conditions.

In addition, given the current service needs in our department, the successful applicant will also be required to have certification in anatomical pathology (Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification, or equivalent). Specifically, the applicant will be required to provide clinical service coverage in dermatopathology and head and neck pathology, preferably with fellowship-level training in one of these subspecialties. As well, the successful candidate will cover other areas of surgical pathology (including frozen sections and on-call) on a rotational basis. There will also be teaching responsibilities in this component of the position, as Vancouver General Hospital is the primary site for the UBC Anatomical Pathology residency program.

This position will also be a clinical faculty position in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine as well as the UBC Faculty of Dentistry. Clinical faculty appointments at UBC will be at a rank determined by the Appointments and Promotion Committee of the UBC Faculty of Dentistry and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine.

In accordance with Canadian Employment and Immigration requirements, preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada. UBC and its affiliates hire on the basis of merit and are committed to employment equity. All qualified persons are encouraged to apply. Only short-listed applicants will be contacted in follow-up. The start date for this position will be July 1, 2020, or as soon thereafter as possible.
