We are eager to hire a Laboratory Technologist to join our small, close-knit team at the Port Hardy Hospital. If you prefer a smaller, affordable, friendly coastal community with proximity to a wide variety of outdoor activities, this could be the ideal opportunity for you.

Port Hardy Hospital is a 12 bed hospital that provides emergency, acute, residential and palliative care, ambulatory outpatient services, laboratory and X-ray services. Our medical laboratory provides services for in-patients and out-patients, along with core laboratory services including Hematology, Chemistry and limited scope Transfusion Medicine. The laboratory employs 4 Laboratory Technologists and 1 Laboratory Assistant, plus the supervisor. The work schedule for this position is 7.5 hour rotating shifts plus on-call. On-call is shared with 3 other staff members. Our team works closely with the staff at Port McNeill, Port Alice and Cormorant Island Hospitals.


This is regular part-time position (approximately 30 hours per week or .8 FTE plus call). The salary range is $29.70 -$37.04 hourly plus benefits. Reporting to the Supervisor or designate, you will perform, established laboratory procedures, including hematology, chemistry and transfusion medicine.


You have successfully completed a recognized diploma program in Medical Laboratory Technology and have certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS). Completion of core laboratory related courses within the last two years or one (1) year recent, related experience within the last six years in the core laboratory section of the laboratory, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is essential.


Port Hardy is located at the northern tip of Vancouver Island, BC, approximately 5 ½ hours north of Victoria, BC. With a population of about 4,500, Port Hardy is located on a small bay on the Queen Charlotte Strait. The sheltered location first drew the Kwakwaka'wakw First Nations to settle the area over 8,000 years ago. First Nations culture still abounds in this cozy seaside town. The community has numerous recreation opportunities, ranging from fishing to diving and surfing in the area. The community also includes an indoor arena and pool as well as a track. A modern highway system connects Port Hardy to the rest of Vancouver Island and commercial airlines provide daily service from Vancouver and coastal communities.
