Job Summary

Nisga’a Valley Health Authority is located on the Ancient Territorial Lands of the Nisga’a Nation approximately 100 km from Terrace B.C. The year round breathtaking natural environment of the Nass valley boasts one of the most expansive Lava Beds in BC, beautiful snow capped mountains, boating and kayaking in turquois Lava lake and exceptional fishing in the Nass river and Gingolx’s waterfront. Nisga’a Valley Health Authority is seeking a qualified Registered Nurses to provide Management services to several areas throughout the 4 clinics in Nisga’a Valley Health Authority. NVHA Nurse Manager acts as a Liaison between external service providers and NVHA Clinicians, Nurses, Home Care LPN and Patient Care Aids in ensuring exceptional client care across the Wellness continuum. Nursing Managers work within their scope to ensure transfer of knowledge and skills regarding generalized and specific nursing care, standards and policies. In support of the continuum of care, the NM works collaboratively with NVHA Physician and Nursing staff in the assignment of clinicians to patients based on frequency and expected duration of prescribed treatments and therapies. Through ongoing research and evaluation of best/evidence based practice, the Nurse Manager ensures appropriate client, family and community care.

Lastly, the Nurse Manager may act as a support the Nisga’a Health Benefits program in reviewing eligibility of services and supports, including confirmation and collaboration with external Clinicians. As a Nisga’a Valley Health Employee, it is expected that the position continually ensures compliance with BCCNP and agency policies, standards and procedures.

Roles and Responsibilities
• Managing the day to day operations of NVHA Nursing programs and services,
• Supervision of NVHA Nursing staff (Clinical, Home care and Public Health),
• Management of contracted nursing services,
• Coordinates all aspects of nursing care (ie: recruitment, scheduling, training evaluations etc…),
• Ensures transfer of knowledge, skills and treatment process to and from referring services,
• Advocates internally/externally to ensure clients have access to appropriate Health care services,
• Work collaboratively with both internal and external Clinicians, Homecare nurses, and Patient Care Aids, to facilitate comprehensive care plans to ensure wrap around services to clients,
• Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents all nursing care of patients in accordance with policies and professional nursing standards,
• The RN may be the primary point of clinical contact for NIHB and specific clients, families and healthcare professionals,
• The RN follows the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation,
• The RN ensures all complex, chronic, homecare and potential home care clients with in Nisga’a service area are reviewed minimum 3 times a year,
• In the field, minimum 8 days/month conducting hospital/clinic and home visits throughout all communities within the NVHA service area,
• Scheduling of weekly NIHB, bi-weekly Home Care/Clinical and Case Management meetings with appropriate staff,
• Ensuring accuracy of all nursing time sheets, on call and overtime,
• Participation, support and recommendations regarding disciplinary actions and processes, aligning with agency policy and Provincial and Federal labor laws,
• On call and clinical relief may be required.

Qualifications & Experience
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• Minimum of 2-years acute/medical experience
• 3 – 5 years Management/Supervisory experience
• Minimum 1-year Case Management experience preferred
• Knowledge of Northern BC Health Care environment
• BLS-HCP (ACLS and Trauma course if on call)
• Registered with BCCNP
• Self-directed, innovative and efficient
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge/ability with computer applications including Med Access or comparable
medical applications
• Effective interpersonal skills
• Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks and organize time appropriately
• Must have a valid BC Driver’s Licence
• Knowledge of the Nisga’a Language and Culture a definite asset
