Job Summary

Nisga’a Valley Health has several opportunities for Registered Nurses across the Nass Valley. Community Health Nurses all work in conformity with the BCCNP Standards of Nursing Practice and Code of Ethics any of the four Nisga’a Valley Health Centers located in Gitlaxt’aamiks, Gitwinksihlkw, Laxgalts’ap, and Gingolx. The main Health facility is located 96 km from Terrace BC. with the furthest community of Gingolx 140 km away. Nursing positions include Remote Practice, Communicable Disease and Float. Each position allows for a unique nursing opportunity as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in areas of diagnosis, treatment, education, prevention and promotion as well as some basic administrative duties. In addition to regular clinical/community clinics, the incumbent is expected to provide on call service and will attend to urgent medical emergencies, as required. All assessment, diagnosis, treatment and services provided will be in accordance BCCNP Standards and guidelines in conjunction with remote practice, CDC or medical practitioner's direction. Reports to the Clinical Nurse Team Lead or designate.

Roles and Responsibilities
1. Performs appropriate physical assessment of clients (inclusive of routine clinical assessments to emergent ECG & Lab procedures),
2. Provides nursing interventions within scope of practice including provision of and administration of medication,
3. Intravenous start, medication administration, maintenance and discontinuance,
4. Performs venipuncture, collects and prepares laboratory specimens for transport,
5. Provides CDC program (immunizations, STI/TB/HIV/HCV screening, treatment and follow up)
6. Ensures appropriate documentation of all assessments, diagnosis, treatments and modalities administered,
7. Ensures that clinical and emergency equipment, medical supplies, drugs and/or immunizations are routinely maintained and replenished, as per NVHA policy.
8. Acts as a resource to other programs and services staff,
9. Supports ongoing Quality Assurance,
10. Prepares and submits a monthly report as required,
11. Other duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience
• Registered with BCCNP
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• Minimum of 2 years’ acute experience
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a related position
• Demonstrated success in related clinical experience
• CDC, STI, TB, certification,
• Remote Nursing Practice Certification (preferred)
• Emergency Specialty Nursing Certificate (an asset)
• ACLS, BSL-HCP (preferred)

• Knowledge/ability with computer applications including Med Access or comparable
medical applications,
• Able to adapt and handle crisis situations effectively,

• Knowledge of the Nisga’a Language and Culture a definite asset
