Role and Facility Information

Northern Health is seeking two experienced Family Practice-Anesthetists in Fort St. John (two full-time positions). Put your enhanced skills training to good use in these varied and diverse practice opportunities!

The selected candidates will each work 2 days/week in the OR, plus Anesthesia call 1/5 days. Emergency shifts or Primary Care can fill the remaining days.

Fort St John Hospital is a new state of the art 55 bed hospital and 123 bed residential care facility serving a population of approximately 20,000 and is one of two area Emergency Rooms serving a catchment area of approximately 69,000.

The Emergency Room sees 25,000+ visits per year, currently covered by 3 full time General Practitioners with assistance from other General Practitioners in the community.

Fort St. John is known as “The Energetic City” and is located at Mile 47 of the world famous Alaska Highway! The city has numerous restaurants, cafés, and a health food store. It is the cultural and commercial hub of the Northeast, with a performing and visual arts centre, library, art gallery and theatre. Large concerts are hosted at the state-of-the-art Encana Events Centre in Dawson Creek, only a one-hour drive from Fort St. John.

Recreational opportunities in the Fort St. John area include speed-skating (on one of only four indoor Olympic-sized, long-track speed skating ovals in North America!), indoor walking track, indoor soccer, golf, tennis, yoga, dance, mountain biking, walking trails, hiking, boating, kayaking, swimming, fishing, hunting, camping, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, curling, and hockey. Fort St. John always has something for you to do whether it's summer or winter!

Our local airport offers numerous daily flights on Air Canada, WestJet, and Central Mountain Air.

Fort St. John has seven elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school. Northern Lights College provides post-secondary education.
