Role and Facility Information

The Department of Psychiatry, Island Health, South Island, is looking for a part-time Psychiatrist to join the Mood Disorders inpatient unit (1SW).

The successful candidate will provide in-patient services on PCC 1SW unit, the specialized Mood Disorders and Eating Disorders in-patient unit.

The Mood Disorder Clinic offers outpatient and in-patient assessment and treatment of adult patients with mood disorders (major depression or bipolar disorder), particularly to those who have diagnostic issues/problems, poor responses to treatment, and/or complex management issues. We offer a whole range of treatments including medication management, case management, and other biological intervention such as ECT.

The successful candidate will hold an Independent License with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia and will be a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. Experience working in a team environment, with supervision of students/residents, would be preferable. Clinical and research experience in mood disorders would definitely be an asset.

On call responsibility is mandatory for Island Health psychiatry services.

As Island Health is part of the UBC Faculty of Medicine Island Medical Program there is opportunity for training of medical students and residents and applying for a clinical appointment is expected.

Participation in research is strongly encouraged and facilitated by Island Health.

Administrative duties of the position include, attending clinical team meetings and provide reports to the Department of Psychiatry meetings.
