Registered Nurse - Surgical Suite

Casual On Call - Monday to Friday 0800-1600 hours

This invaluable role will find you using your patient care experience and clinical knowledge to provide perioperative care to surgical patients, as well as nursing care that ensures patients and their families are aware of the spectrum of services at BC Cancer and in the community. Reporting to the Clinical Nurse Coordinator, you will be called upon to function as a scrub and circulator nurse during special procedures. You will participate as a member of our health team to identify patient needs and communicate patient-related information in order to maintain efficiency and interpretation of the treatment plan.

Examples of Duties:

Provides nursing care in accordance with the Nursing Department's philosophy, conceptual framework, and standards of practice. Functions as scrub nurse/circulator/PAR nurse for operations and special procedures. Admits, transfers, or discharges patients according to agency policies and Clinic/Nursing Department directives.
Functions as a member of the health team by assisting the patient in the interpretation of the treatment plan and ensuring patients and families are aware of services available at the agency and in the community.
Identifying patient needs and consulting with members of other health care disciplines as necessary.
Communicating patient-related information to health team members through documentation in the patient's chart and the provision of written and/or oral reports.
Participating in interdisciplinary rounds.
Maintains a safe environment for patients, families, and staff by adhering to emergency procedures and safety policies and standards.

Qualifications:

Education, Training, & Experience

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Graduation from an Operating Room post-diploma program preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
Current CPR (Level C) certification
