Role and Facility Information

Applications are invited for the position of full-time interventional cardiac electrophysiologist at Royal Columbian Hospital, New Westminster, British Columbia. The successful applicant will join an existing team of two interventional electrophysiologists and one non-interventional electrophysiologist. The successful applicant will be expected to be fully trained in complex device implantation, simple ablation and complex ablation procedures and to participate in the regional electrophysiology call schedule. They will also share a commitment to the general cardiology service.

The Royal Columbian Hospital is the tertiary referral centre for Fraser Health which serves approximately 1.8 million people representing around one-third of the population of British Columbia. Approximately 1300 pacemakers and 400 high voltage devices are implanted annually and approximately 550 electrophysiology procedures are performed each year.

The successful applicant must hold current CMPA membership, be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia for independent specialty practice and hold FRCPC or equivalent.

Royal Columbian Hospital is a provincial referral hospital (tertiary/trauma care centre) located in New Westminster, BC, with 422 acute beds that is a University of BC Affiliated teaching hospital that offers medical, surgical, advanced diagnostics & imaging, critical care, inpatient pediatrics, levels 1 & 3 obstetrics, outpatient clinics, level 2 & 3 neonatology, cardiac surgery, neurosciences, and tertiary programs as well as 24/7 emergency services with 75,986 visits annually.

The Royal Columbian Hospital Redevelopment is a multi-year, multi-phase project to increase the hospital's capacity, beds and services. Phase one is underway and includes multiple projects, many which prepare the hospital’s infrastructure for future expansion as well as a new 75-bed mental health and substance use wellness centre with more outpatient clinics by late 2019/early 2020. Phase two, if approved by government, proposes to add an acute care tower with more beds for intensive care, cardiac intensive care, obstetrics and medicine/surgical and a new larger emergency by late 2022. Phase three proposes to upgrade existing buildings to support areas in the Health Care Centre, such as the laboratory and pharmacy, by 2025.
