Role and Facility Information

General Internist

The Department of Medicine at Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre (ARHCC) is recruiting two general internists, skilled in the management of complex inpatients.

Abbotsford Regional Hospital is a teaching hospital and a regional referral centre that serves nearly 140,000 people in Abbotsford as well as complex patients in the East Fraser Valley.

Do you want to be part of a dynamic team?

You will join an existing group of Internists in the development of an inpatient Internal Medicine unit for medically complex patients in a non-telemetry medical ward. The internists will have MRP responsibilities for these patients. On-call intensivists cover the hospital's ICU and step-down unit and cardiologists cover telemetry-based CCU unit in the hospital. The hospital also has a nephrology service with an in-hospital dialysis unit and a medical oncology group with BC Cancer Agency adjacent to the medical ward. The on-call IM physician will admit new patients to the IM service, as well as take care of a group of admitted complex medical patients throughout the 24-hour call period.

Given the patient care complexity, it is advised that the on-call physician remains close to the hospital after hours. A new physician is expected to share a 1 in 7-8 call eventually. Initially, it will be more frequent. A new physician can use the Rapid Access clinic to follow up on discharged patients, which is also shared among the current GIM members.

Our goal is to foster excellence in clinical practice in a collegial atmosphere, with attention to work-life balance and personal and professional development.
