Specialty Family Practitioner/General Practitioner

Subspecialty Addiction Medicine

Role and Facility Information

This organization is looking for an energetic Addiction Physician to join our growing practice. The facility is based in Kamloops, BC where we have an outpatient addiction clinic in which the bulk of the work is related to Opiate Agonist Therapy, but where we also see a not-insignificant number of patients for alcohol and amphetamine dependency. We also provide services for pain management. We confidently adhere to the biopsychosocial model of addiction treatment and believe that addiction medicine is about more than writing a prescription, it is about providing high quality, safe addiction care. Our approach uses individual-focused treatment as well as group medical visits, coordinated by our addiction counselor. We provide medical management and treatment of addiction issues, including Hepatitis C treatment, and one-to-one counselling opportunities with our addiction counselor to provide education and support surrounding addiction and mental health issues. We believe that addiction and mental health issues should be treated concurrently and strive to provide, within our scope of practice, treatments that improve over-all quality of life, while minimizing the burden of high-risk medication such as prescription opioids and benzodiazepines. We believe in accessible treatment and utilize technology such as telehealth when feasible, minimizing boundaries and increasing access to treatment. Our team of professionals are innovators in the field of Addiction Medicine, empowering our patients to achieve fulfillment in their lives by eliminating chemical dependency, reducing pain and suffering, improving mental health and restoring resiliency. Our hope is to bring addiction medicine treatment into mainstream medicine to eradicate stigma surrounding addiction through education and advocacy so that patients can receive high quality care without judgment and stigma.

Apart from our main clinics, we also provide telehealth services in Interior Health. Telehealth, a process in which patients in remote locations are assessed by physicians via encrypted access video-conferencing, has proven an effective means of reaching rural and remote patients. Utilizing telehealth allows us to reduce barriers to treatment. We currently provide telehealth to patients in Cranbrook, Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre, and our Merritt clinic. Our Telehealth guidelines correspond to the expected standard of care for telehealth as noted by the CPSBC. If not already, the successful candidate will become familiar with these guidelines.

This position requires full licensure in British Columbia as well as exemptions for both Methadone for opioid dependency and pain through CPSBC, as well as a Suboxone Certificate. Applicants should be ABAM certified or willing to work toward certification.

To apply, please send your cover letter and resume to Health Match BC.
