Role and Facility Information

The Department of Psychiatry of Island Health has opportunity for a part-time Psychiatrist providing Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) services.

In this position you will work as a key member within the interdisciplinary EPI outpatient team focused on providing care to patients 18 – 24 years of age in a newly developed integrated Youth Hub.

Youth Hub clinical duties include working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to assess and treat patients and their families presenting with first onset psychosis due to a wide range of causes and with multiple comorbidities including Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Mood Disorders, Co-morbid addictions, personality disorders, brain injuries and other physical disorders may exist.

Some provision of long-term follow-up support to patients and their families through collaborative care support to responsible primary care physicians when patients are discharged from active care will occur.

The primary responsibility of this position will be providing support for the EPI program at the youth hub. It is anticipated that the number of young adults being served by the EPI program at the hub will increase.

The successful candidate will become a valued member of a collaborative interdisciplinary team including case managers, nursing, occupational therapy and psychology working together providing comprehensive recovery orientated and PSR informed care. Collaborative care integrating primary care partners and working closely with family and social networks of patients is part of the clinical model.

On call responsibility is mandatory for Island Health psychiatry services and could be with either the adult or child streams.

As Island Health is part of the UBC Faculty of Medicine Island Medical Program there is opportunity for training of medical students and residents and applying for a clinical appointment is expected.

Participation in research is strongly encouraged and facilitated by Island Health.
