Role and Facility Information

RCH Department of Medicine

The RCH Department of Medicine is looking for a half-time clinical Hematologist. The successful candidate will be part of the Hematology group practice, and will provide services as determined by the needs of the clinical group. This will involve providing coverage for the consult services as well as the Hematology outpatient clinic. He/she will provide teaching for learners in the form of medical students, residents and fellows and take part in educational and administrative activities. Further clinical details can be discussed with interested applicants.

This position offers the opportunity to practice as a Hematologist in a tertiary care academic centre. The candidate will also be expected to be involved in teaching in General Hematology. He/she will be expected to participate in Journal Clubs, Rounds and other academic endeavours.

The position is scheduled to start Jan 1, 2018.


The candidate must have passed the Royal College Examination in Internal Medicine and Hematology. The successful candidate must have exemplary interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within the healthcare environment. They must have prior clinical and teaching experience in an academic centre and apply for a clinical faculty appointment with the University of British Columbia. Experience and demonstrated skills in leadership, medical administration, and/or teaching will be considered an asset.

Facility: Royal Columbian Hospital

Royal Columbian Hospital is a provincial referral hospital (tertiary/trauma care centre) located in New Westminster, BC, with 422 acute beds that is a University of BC Affiliated teaching hospital that offers medical, surgical, advanced diagnostics & imaging, critical care, inpatient pediatrics, levels 1 & 3 obstetrics, outpatient clinics, level 2 & 3 neonatology, cardiac surgery, neurosciences, and tertiary programs as well as 24/7 emergency services with 75,986 visits annually.

The Royal Columbian Hospital Redevelopment is a multi-year, multi-phase project to increase the hospital's capacity, beds and services. Phase one is underway and includes multiple projects, many which prepare the hospital’s infrastructure for future expansion as well as a new 75-bed mental health and substance use wellness centre with more outpatient clinics by late 2019/early 2020. Phase two, if approved by government, proposes to add an acute care tower with more beds for intensive care, cardiac intensive care, obstetrics and medicine/surgical and a new larger emergency by late 2022. Phase three proposes to upgrade existing buildings to support areas in the Health Care Centre, such as the laboratory and pharmacy, by 2025.
