Campbell River

Located at the eastern mid point of Vancouver Island, the port city of Campbell River is a natural distribution centre as well as gateway destination for the northern coastal regions. Towering west coast forests have fostered a strong forestry industry here. Mining and tourism also contribute to the economy. The Campbell River area is enhanced by the diversity and abundance of resident wildlife. Nearby, Strathcona Park provides 210,000 hectares of land to augment the wildlife population of the district. Fish breed in the protected coastal waters as well as in many inland lakes and rivers. An abundance of sockeye, coho and spring salmon have given Campbell River its reputation as the salmon capital of the world.
