Specialty Hospitalist

Subspecialty Family Practice or Internal Medicine

Role and Facility Information

The Victoria Hospitalist group invites qualified candidates to apply for ongoing hospitalist work. This team of approximately 60 experienced physicians, who enjoy medicine and each other's company, are looking for family physicians who are eligible to practice medicine in British Columbia, to join their group in Victoria, BC.

We care for approximately 400 inpatients between the 2 tertiary care hospitals in the city (Victoria General Hospital and Royal Jubilee Hospital), across all specialties. The work is challenging, but satisfying, with exposure to a broad spectrum of medicine, from Infectious Diseases to general Internal Medicine, Palliative Care, Geriatrics and Rehabilitation Medicine. We are also the emergency resource for all hospitalised patients, regardless of the service that they are on. There is good specialist support for our services. We practice primarily as the Most Responsible Physician (MRP) for these inpatients, but also work collaboratively with our specialist colleagues. With the advent of a medical school in Victoria, we are also involved with teaching and supervising both students and Family Medicine residents.

Victoria is a beautiful community to live and work in. By doing shift work (stretches of 7 or 12 days to promote continuity of care), the hospitals are covered by our team 24/7/365, yet this schedule allows for plenty of personal free time to enjoy the natural beauty and region in which we live, and support each other for holiday coverage.

Payment is competitive, with an hourly rate ($152.85/hour), paid monthly for the previous month's work. A successful candidate should have had recent experience with hospital work and/or rural practice, as well as the ability to demonstrate prior success in working well in a team environment.
