Specialty Anesthesiology

Subspecialty General

Role and Facility Information

We are taking applications for an anesthetist at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, BC. Our collegial team seeks a 5th anesthetist to meet our workload. We would welcome a new graduate or an experienced colleague, and are happy to encourage locums during the recruitment phase.

As a regional hospital, we serve a catchment area of about 75,000 and our team shares equally in supporting three Operating Rooms, procedures in Ambulatory care, and a pre-screening clinic three days a week. This past spring we opened a new 6-bed state-of-the-art ICU, and in 2018 we expect to have a fixed MRI. Specialist services include: General Surgery, Orthopedics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, ENT, Urology, Ophthalmology, Pathology, Radiology, Internal Medicine and Psychiatry.

We share call equally (24/7), typically 1/5 weekends + 1 day/week. Post-call is typically a day off or a day in the pre-screen clinic. And, if staffing goes below 5 anesthetists, we are supported by the provincial Rural Locum Program.

If you enjoy teaching, there are opportunities with RT Airway refresher training, with medical students and residents, and with helping rural doctors in the area to maintain/upgrade their skills.

If you enjoy outdoor activities, you will love the many amazing opportunities that await you in this beautiful valley between the Rockies and the Purcells. The area has a thriving performing arts community and history of bring good entertainment to town. Come check us out!

Cranbrook has an airport with regular service to Calgary, Vancouver and Kelowna. And we are an hour from the US border and a 4 hour drive to Calgary. Come live and work where others only play!
