The Registered Nurse (RN), Surgical Services under the general direction of the Program Director, Program Coordinators, and Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL), provides obstetrical/gynaecological nursing care to women and their families in the surgical services unit. Performs surgical preparation/scrub/circulating/ post anaesthesia roles for gynaecological and obstetrical procedures. This role encompasses maternal and fetal assessment, patient support and specialized care/emergency care, teaching, counselling, and liaising with support services to promote maternal/fetal and newborn well-being.

Education, Training & Experience
• Graduation of an approved School of Nursing. Current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC). Two years of recent perinatal nursing experience which includes 1 year in LDR or equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Certification/diploma OR/PAR course, e.g. BCIT, St. Paul’s.
• BC Women’s OR/PAR course.
• Fetal Health Assessment Certification (BC Women’s or equivalent).
• Current CPR /Newborn Resuscitation Certification.
• Breastfeeding update, minimum 6 hours in the last 2 years.
• Perinatal loss education, minimum 4 hours.

• Ability to apply and evaluate maternal/fetal/newborn nursing theory and expertise.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to cope with multiple tasks for a variety of patients.
• Ability to triage patients, and to prioritize and organize work.
• Ability to deal with and promote change.
• Ability to operate related equipment in surgical services unit.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
