Hospitalist

Fraser Health is seeking physicians interested in working in the Department of Hospital Medicine at Burnaby General Hospital effective January 1st, 2018. The successful candidate(s) will be responsible to provide hospitalist services including admission and management as the Most Responsible Physician (MRP) for otherwise unattached patients, as well as supportive care for surgical, medical specialty and psychiatric patients. The Hospitalist Program at Burnaby is a well-established program with physicians who are committed to providing the highest quality of care to our patients. Burnaby Hospital is a community hospital, committed to a culture of collaborative, inter-professional team based care.

Applicants should have a desire and ability to work collaboratively with all members of the inter-professional team, including other physicians, Nurses, and Allied Health staff. The candidate requires superior clinical and communication skills. Collegiality, enthusiasm, flexibility, and a willingness to learn, improve and adapt are important qualities. Experience in Hospitalist work is an asset, although not necessary. The work is rotated equally among members of the group, and will include contributions to committee and administrative work. Intake shifts in ER, evenings, weekend and night shifts are mandatory and are shared equally. Continuity of care is important and weekend work is approximately 1 in 3.

It is anticipated that the hiring process will be completed before the end of June 2017.

Eligibility: Candidates must be licensed (or be eligible for licensure) with College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC), and have CCFP (or equivalent) credentials. Certification in ACLS is suggested.

Compensation: The current contract pays $152.85/hr. Full time work is considered a minimum of 1680 hours of work annually. Positions are expected to be ongoing, provided there is continued adequate funding for the program.

Burnaby Hospital is a 279 bed hospital offering medical, surgical, tertiary palliative care, psychiatry, as well as 24/7 emergency services with 79,500 visits annually.
