Child and Adolescent/Forensic Psychiatrist

The Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre (MATC), located in Burnaby, B.C., provides provincial tertiary programs for BC youth, ages 12-17, with complex emotional and behavioural issues. Programs include 22 residential beds and community based services. Most youth are admitted voluntarily. The Maples is engaged as a teaching facility and conducts research in partnerships with local universities. We currently have 6 psychiatrists in our group. One residential unit provides treatment for youth, ages 12-18, found unfit or NCRMD under the Criminal Code of Canada, due to mental disorder.
As an experienced and licensed Clinical Psychiatrist you will use your knowledge and expertise in mental health treatment of youth to provide direct psychiatric consultation to youth who have been found unfit or NCRMD. As part of this you will conduct risk assessments, and present to the Review Board of BC, making recommendations for unfit and NCRMD youth. You will also provide care for youth who have been referred for assessment/treatment voluntarily. You will bring expertise in psychiatric assessment, treatment and engagement in multidisciplinary assessment and service delivery. The capacity to function as leader and collaborator, as a member of a multidisciplinary team including nurses, social workers, psychologists, and childcare staff is essential.
An ideal candidate will have compassion for and experience working with disadvantaged and Aboriginal populations, neurodevelopmental issues, interest in engaging in research and program development. We are seeking candidates who have experience working with seriously ill and forensic youth populations.
