Dermatopathologist Position and Opportunity in Kelowna, BC, Canada

The Interior Health Authority (IHA) of British Columbia (BC), Canada invites applications for a full-time Dermatopathologist position, located at Kelowna General Hospital (KGH), in the city of Kelowna, BC, Canada. The IHA serves a population of approximately 750,000 across a geographically diverse region of southern BC through 6 regional hospitals. The IHA Department of Laboratory Medicine currently has 34 regional pathologists and laboratory physicians, while additional positions are being recruited.

The successful applicant will provide consultative and diagnostic dermatopathology services, including DIF interpretations, while working with an American Board Certified dermatopathologist at KGH. The position includes opportunities to engage in academic activities in the Southern Medical Program of the University of British Columbia (UBC), which trains 32 medical students per year in Kelowna.

IH processes 75,000 surgical pathology specimens annually. KGH processes 10,000 dermatopathology cases and performs 600 dermatopathology consultations per year, currently supported by an 0.5 FTE dermatopathologist at KGH with a second dermatopathologist available for cross coverage at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, BC.

Qualifications for the position include an MD, eligibility for a medical licence in the Province of BC Canada, certification in Anatomic Pathology or General Pathology and a Fellowship in Dermatopathology. The successful candidate will have experience in dermatological malignancies and inflammatory dermatoses, including alopecia. Experience with interpretation of skin direct immunofluorescence would be an asset. Up to 25% practice in general surgical pathology is available depending on the candidate.

For all candidates, relocation is reimbursable to a maximum of $10,000 (< 3,000 km) or $15,000 (> 3,000 km). Remuneration is governed by the BC Provincial Pathology payment grid.
