Sample Generic Cover Letter

A cover letter lets the employer know what position you are applying for, why they should select you for an interview, and how you will follow-up. As this letter could go out to multiple people at a variety of health authorities and/or clinics, it is best to keep it generic. Here is a sample template:

Your name

Address (street, city, province, postal code)

Telephone or mobile phone number, with area code

Email address

Date

To whom it may concern,

The first paragraph should include information on why you are writing. Mention the type of position that you are applying for and include other general information regarding the position. Be clear and concise regarding your request.

The next section should describe why they should consider you for the position. Convince them that they should grant you an interview for the role that you referred to in the first paragraph. Make strong connections between your abilities and the requirements of the job.

Mention specifically how your skills and experience match the job you are applying for. Remember, you are interpreting your resume, not repeating it. Try to support each statement that you make with an example. Use several shorter paragraphs or bullet points when listing examples, rather than one large block of text.

Conclude your cover letter by thanking the employer for considering you for the position. Include information on how they can reach you.

Sincerely,

Your Full Name, Degrees/Certifications
