Internationally Educated Midwives

Before seeking registration with the College of Midwives of British Columbia (CMBC), all internationally educated midwives (IEMs) must first complete a bridging program. At this time, CMBC recognizes the following programs:

The Internationally Educated Midwives Bridging Program (IEMBP) at the University of British Columbia (UBC).

The IEMBP at UBC in Vancouver, BC is a nine-month program designed for midwives who have been educated in a midwifery program outside of Canada, and have had practice experience prior to applying. Only applicants who have prior midwifery education are eligible for the IEMBP.
