Sonography Canada: In British Columbia, there is currently no provincial regulatory body responsible for diagnostic medical sonographers. Sonography Canada is the credentialing authority for diagnostic medical sonographers in Canada. It also provides a current registry of diagnostic ultrasound professionals who meet national competency standards.
American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS): An independent, not-for-profit organization that administers examinations and credentials registered diagnostic medical sonographers in the United States. Registration with the ARDMS is recognized by most health employers in British Columbia.
British Columbia Ultrasonographers’ Society (BCUS): The professional association of diagnostic medical sonographers in British Columbia. The goal of this society is to advance the science of diagnostic medical sonography by providing educational events and addressing issues affecting the profession in province. Membership with the BCUS is not mandatory to work in British Columbia.
Rural Coordination Centre of British Columbia (RCCbc): Supports the Continuum of Care by focusing on rural health education, network facilitation and interprofessional training and practice.
BC Health Employers
The province has five health employers serving distinct geographical regions, in addition to one health employer responsible for coordinating specialized province-wide health services, one faith-based employer, and the First Nations Health Authority.
