Subspecialty Addiction Medicine

Role and Facility Information

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a 0.5 FTE position (up to 5 sessions) in Addiction Medicine to cover clinic work and residential treatment which are a part of our continuum of services for clients seeking assistance for problematic substance use.

The physician will work within a multidisciplinary team that includes nurses, social workers, health care workers as well as other physicians.

Skills in addiction medicine including medical assessment, withdrawal management, co-occurring disorders, pain management and opioid agonist treatment are expected assets.

The physician will adhere to the guidelines, policies and procedures set forth by the organization to include (but not limited to): harm reduction, trauma informed and culturally aware practice.

The physician fosters a collaborative inter-professional practice environment that enhances client-centred services within the associated sites/services. The physician works within a self-directed team of physicians and other inter-professional colleagues to achieve excellence in client-centred care.

Qualifications:

A Medical Degree and eligibility for licensure, in good standing, with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Current Canadian Medical Protection Association, or equivalent, coverage. Eligibility for a faculty appointment with the University of British Columbia, School of Medicine and participation in educational activities is ideal. If not already a member, join the Medical Staff of Vancouver Coastal Health. In addition, the candidate should have:

• Certification in Addiction Medicine or an eligibility and willingness to pursue certification

• Prescribe opioid agonist treatment (OAT)

• A demonstrated ability working as a member of an interprofessional health care team

• A commitment to participate in new methods in health improvement and care delivery, including shared care

The physician will report to the medical coordinator or manager at the requisite site, and to the Medical Director of Substances Use Services, Vancouver Community.
