Role and Facility Information

The Department of Orthopaedics at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) and UBC Hospital (Vancouver Acute Health Services) invite applications for a full-time academic orthopaedic surgeon in the field of adult reconstructive orthopaedics (Hip and Knee). This position is based in Vancouver, and the surgical activities will be primary located at UBC Hospital with some surgical activity at Vancouver General Hospital. Non-surgical work will be based at the Diamond Health Centre in Vancouver with a possibility of relocating to UBC Hospital.

The successful candidate will have an interest in the management of periprosthetic joint infection, and will head a collaboration with the Infectious Diseases service for multidisciplinary collaboration in the treatment of this patient population. The candidate will have completed a successful residency in orthopaedic surgery in Canada or the United States and will be a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. They will have also completed at least a one-year fellowship in adult reconstruction/joint replacement with an emphasis on revision hip and knee replacement, with special training in the management of infection especially one-stage exchange arthroplasty. The incumbent will have also completed a master’s degree or higher in clinical epidemiology, surgery, or in outcomes research. Experience with large administrative databases is an asset. The successful candidate will also have shown an interest in teaching at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels. The ability to perform collaborative research with other members of the team, with other faculty members at the University of British Columbia and beyond is expected. The successful candidate will join a busy academic group with four other surgeons or similar interests and skills. An appropriate appointment at UBC based on experience will be considered.
