Role and Facility Information

Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, 1 days per week (0.2 FTE)

Vancouver Community Mental Health Services is looking to hire a psychiatrist to provide support the intake process for the Child and Youth Mental Health Teams.

The psychiatrist who accepts this position will provide psychiatric assessments, short term management and work with our intake team to assess and direct the care of children, youth and family seeking help.

The applicant should be able to work closely with our intake clinicians, to develop plans with our clients that empower, children, youth and their families.

The applicant would have a comfort with working remotely using remote video conferencing technologies and exercise clinical judgment regarding the use of technology. They would be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of technology.

The psychiatrist, should have excellent communications skills and be able to develop relationship with our community partners especially primary care and schools.

This is an innovative program and the physician should be adaptable and be able to judge where to apply their skills effectively.

The program is currently implementing a strategic plan that will improve the quality and accessibility of mental health services. The psychiatrist should be excited by the opportunities to use innovation in the delivery of high quality care to children and families.

• A Medical Degree and eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
• Specialist qualification in psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and ideally with added qualification in addiction medicine and/or child and youth psychiatry.
• A faculty appointment with the University of British Columbia Faculty Of Medicine is required.
• The successful candidate must join the Medical Staff of Vancouver Coastal Health if not already a member.
• Additionally, the candidate should have:
• A demonstrated ability working as a member of an inter-professional health care team.
• Experience in community-based psychiatric care
• Experience in working with and supporting community primary care
• Familiarity with the concept of recovery in mental health

Reporting Relationship:
The psychiatrist will report to the Medical Director of Vancouver Community Mental Health Services through the Medical Manager of the Child & Youth Mental Health Program.
