Role and Facility Information

We are seeking a psychiatrist to provide service to adults who have a diagnosis of major mental illness and experience significant problems that interfere with their functioning in community, at the Mental Health Team, which serves the Kitsilano and Fairview neighbourhoods.

Characteristics of the clientele may include a history of psychiatric hospitalizations; unstable housing and/or relationships; difficulties with activities of daily living; high risk for co-occurring medical conditions and substance use; refractory treatment history; and risk of causing harm to self or others.

Reporting to the Medical Director and Medical Manager, the successful candidate will work collaboratively, have excellent communication skills, provide expertise and consults to the multidisciplinary team, serve as a resource to primary care providers in dealing with mental health issues and symptom management, and possess a strong knowledge base in psychopharmacology. Additionally, he/she will facilitate continuity of care between hospital and community. There will be an option to provide clinical teaching to medical students and psychiatry residents. On-Call participation is optional.
