Role and Facility Information

The Senior Medical Director is a key medical leadership role within the Richmond Community of Care (“CoC”). As a member of the Richmond CoC Senior Leadership Team, the SMD provides senior medical administrative leadership and decision-making in relation to operational and strategic matters. As the senior medical professional for the CoC, he/she provides leadership to the medical staff with respect to their professional activities and directs the medical aspects of care within all the programs in the facilities under the jurisdiction of the CoC.

The SMD also fosters relationships with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia and other professional associations. He/she is the primary administration link within the CoC with respect to medical staff bylaws, and working with the Regional Department Heads and Site Department Heads implements and records performance evaluation, credentialing, appointments and re-appointments, negotiation of compensation, and mediation in conflict situations. Additionally, the incumbent maintains faculty appointments, professional memberships and associations and may represent Vancouver Coastal Heath (VCH) on legislative and other committees and boards.

The Senior Medical Director (SMD), Richmond is accountable to the Chief Operating Officer, Richmond for matters relating to Richmond operations and to the Vice President, Medicine for matters relating to medical administration.

This leadership opportunity is a part-time position based out of Richmond Hospital, which is a fully accredited, 228 acute care bed facility serving a local population of 200,000 with an additional catchment area of almost 120,000.
